A fantastic program of films has been confirmed for the Bangalow Outdoor Film Festival, to be staged under starlight in the beautiful Bangalow Showground. Running over nine nights the festival will be projected on a giant outdoor screen. Designed to appeal to all ages, the selection of films includes exciting Australian and Northern Rivers premieres screening along side Aussie classics, as well the inaugural BOFF Short Film Competition.
Opening Night, on Friday 1 October, will screen a newly restored version of the Australian classic, The Sentimental Bloke, with live musical accompaniment by Jen Anderson & Band.The family film Two Brothers starring Guy Pearce screens on Saturday 2 October and sees director Jean-Jacques Annaud, 15 years after the international success of The Bear, return to the wild to deliver a charming film about two tiger cubs. Lightning In A Bottle screening on Sunday 3 October should not be missed by music fans. The film captures an amazing concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall which features more than 50 artists spanning several generations — from Indie Arie and Bonnie Raitt to Natalie Cole and BB King. On the Monday 4 October long weekend there's another family night where the Australian classic, Dot And The Kangaroo will screen as a school holiday special. For all the surfers in the region, Tuesday 5 October features a fantastic Big Screen double bill where — Step Into Liquid screens alongside the 1972 Australian classic The Morning of the Earth.Wednesday 6 October's double bill sees BOFF guest Nell Schofield present Puberty Blues followed by FJ Holden.On Thursday 7 October BOFF presents the Australian Premiere of The Motorcyle Diaries which follows two young Argentines who, in 1952, set out on a motor bike road trip to discover the real Latin America. One of them was a 23-year-old medical student—Che Guevara. Fresh from the Sydney, Melbourne and Cannes film festivals and one of the most exciting Australian film in years, the feature Somersault will be headlining the double bill on Friday 8 October. Also screening is One Perfect Day a fantastic Australian dance rave feature. Saturday 9 October is Closing Night and sees the audience award for the 'Window Dressing Competition' announced before the screening of Zhang Yimou's much awaited US Box Office hit Hero.
In honour of the other great event on Saturday, there will be an election-eve special screening of David Williamson's Australian Don's Party at Bangalow's A&I Hall — where patrons can either drown their sorrows or toast a victory.
On Friday 1 October from 10am to 2pm BOFF will screen the finalists in the Short Film Competition at Byron Bay Cinemas. The winner will be announced and screened on Friday 8 October, prior to Somersault. The film's director will be awarded the inaugural Bangalow Palme d'out 'or, which is sure to become one of Australia's most sought after film prizes!
All BOFF films will start after sunset — 6pm for children's programs Two Brothers and Dot and the Kangaroo — 6.30pm for all other programs.
