AFC News June 08
The newly formed Screen Australia will host a visit by Pusan International Film Festival scout, Ms Cho Young Jung, who will be in Sydney to view new Australian films.
In its 13th year, PIFF has grown to be one of the largest in Asia, its intention is to bridge the gap between advanced and developing countries. It regularly programs a wide selection of films from Asia and elsewhere. In 2007 PIFF screened 271 films from 65 countries to an audience of 198,000.
PIFF looks for relatively new artistic works by young and talented directors as well as works from established directors. The festival gives priority to world premieres and every film to be screened for the festival has to be at least a Korean premiere.
Six Australian films were selected to screen at Pusan last year - Boxing Day, Cross Life, Lucky Miles, September, Son of a Lion and Unfinished Sky.
Ms Cho will be viewing feature films and feature documentaries that have been completed no earlier than October 2007. If you would like your film to be viewed please firstly check the PIFF entry requirements www.piff.org/eng/html/entry/01.asp Submission deadline to Screen Australia is 9 July. If your film meets these conditions please email Dale Fairbairn at dale.fairbairn@afc.gov.au.
Short Films can be submitted directly to PIFF. Short films must be postmarked 30 June 2008. There is no entry fee. Please refer to their website - www.piff.org
