Introduction A well received screening and positive press review within the Premiere, World Cinema and Shorts Programs of Sundance can greatly benefit a film's positioning for the US. Because so many buyers and execs attend, Sundance can generate hype and excitement like few other festivals. Sundance has a long history of showcasing the works of emerging and established Australian directors, with over 80 films screened since 1990.
Sections of festivalCompetitive Program:
Independent Film Competition: America's premiere showcase for independently produced documentary and dramatic films. The competition is a way to create enthusiasm and recognition for the work of American independent filmmakers. Note: The Independent Film Competition is divided into two different competitions - Independent Film Competition - Documentary and the Independent Film Competition - Dramatic
World Cinema Competition: Dramatic: This section consist of a competitive screening of 16 new feature works from some of the most innovative filmmakers from across the globe. The international films exhibited at Sundance reflect the Institute's long-standing commitment to support independent artists, both emerging and established.
World Cinema Competition: Documentaries: A selection of outstanding documentary works from talented non-fiction storytellers around the world. In 2005, this section, for the first time, consisted of a competitive screening of 12 films.
Shorts Program: A competition of American and international short films. Shorts are exhibited before features or combined in feature-length programs.
Non Competitive Program
Premieres: A showcase of diverse contemporary cinema with a selection of latest works from established directors and world premieres of highly anticipated films
Spectrum: A showcase of independent narrative and documentary feature films from the U.S. and around the world.
New Frontier: Presents a selection of some of the most exciting experimental work (feature, short, documentary) submitted to Sundance by American and international artists.
Park City at Midnight: An 'after-hours' showcase of American and international feature films. This series provides kinetic, surprising, and occasionally outrageous concoctions throughout the week of the festival.

Submission requirements*Accepted film length: Feature narrative (70 mins or longer); Short narrative (under 70 mins); Feature documentary (50 mins or longer); Short documentary (under 50 mins)
Accepted screening formats: 16mm and 35mm film; HD Cam
Accepted preview formats: VHS (PAL, NTSC); DVD
