Introduction
Animated films from all over the world are presented every two years during six days of the festival. Over the past 10 years, Stuttgart has developed into the second largest event of its kind in the world. The festival's aim is to offer artistic animated films in a modern and attractive forum. Australian animations have featured strongly in this festival for many years.
Sections of the Festival
Competitive Program

International Competition: This section presents outstanding artistic animated films from the last two years. About 50 films will be shown in the six competition programmes and will be judged by an international jury.

Young Animation: This competitive section features selected animated films from international film and art academies. The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film has always attached great importance to promoting the up-and-coming young artists in the field of animation. A sponsorship prize for film students will be awarded.

Tricks for Kids: This competitive section presents high-quality children's films. Parents and their children can enjoy films of high quality with regard to content and artistic detail and an attractive supporting programme.

Non Competitive Programs

Best of Animation: This section presents a selection of the most important and interesting films of the last five years compiled in accordance with thematic criteria.

International Panorama: This section tells stories and shows pictures from 20 countries worldwide with amusing, exciting, melancholic and funny films in four programmes.

Feature Animation: Implemented in 2000 this section features full-length animated films. The programme shows the connections between cinema films and artistic animated films. This section wants to promote the exchange between producers, film distributors and TV channels. The audience will be able to enjoy a versatile selection of international and innovative full-length films. Films compete for an audience award.

In Persona: This section pays tribute to the work of individual animated filmmakers who have contributed to the culture of animated film in a special way.

The Days of Animated Film Discussions: This program examines the economic and artistic situation of animated film each year.

Animated Clips: This section presents the best animated video clips in a special event which combines screenings and music. Animated Clips is an expression of new visual culture between Club Culture, music video and DJing.

Generation Flash: This section presents the latest innovations of animation on the web. The focus is mainly on creative solutions and exciting interactive contents rather than on technological standards.

Workshops: With well-known international animated filmmakers and TV network directors will focus on artistic and technical questions and economic and content matters in connection with animated film. And we will visit the animation studios at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg which belong to the most important international departments of animated film.

Studio Presentations: Displays the work of leading international production companies.

Presentation of film and art academies: Presents the work of some of the most famous academies.

Submission requirements*
Accepted film length:
Features - 60 minutes up; Shorts - 35 minutes max

Accepted screening formats:
16mm & 35mm film; Betacam SP (PAL)

Accepted preview formats:
Betacam SP (PAL); VHS (PAL, NTSC), DVD
Additional Requirements:
If produced in a different language, the film should have English or German subtitles.
