Germany
Shorts

Start: 30/04/2009
End: 5/05/2009
Deadline: 15/01/2009

Entry Fee: None

Introduction
The Oberhausen festival is the longest standing international short film competition in the world and receives more than 2,600 entries annually for its International Competition alone. It has always been a flexible and independent festival in the standard of quality against which it measures short form.
Sections of the festival
Competitive Program

International Competition: An international competition where short films and videos compete on an equally footing in 10 curated programmes. Each year entries are received from over 80 countries. Each year approximately 70 short films are screened.

Children's Films Competition: Germany's only international competition devoted to films for children. The competition programmes are compiled for various age groups, ranging from five to fourteen year-olds. Each year approximately 35 short films are screened.

German Competition: This section presents German shorts (mainly premieres) in five competition blocks. Two cash prizes totalling 7,500 Euros are awarded. Each year approximately 28 short films are screened.

MuVi International: This progressive section screens music videos from around-the-world. In contrast to other music video awards the MuVi pays tribute to the visual realisation alone. The nature and indeed the quality of the actual music are not assessed. Each year approximately 20 music videos are screened.

Non Competitive Program

In addition to the competitions, the festival presents non competitive programs such as the Short Film Market and specially curated thematic programs of world shorts.
Awards:
  • Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen
  • Two Principal Prizes
  • Jury of the FIPRESCI Prize
