** Note: Deadline has been extended to 5 September **
Loved Up 2 is an initiative of the Indigenous Branch of Screen Australia, in association with SBS Television and relevant state film financing agencies. It is aimed at supporting and encouraging both emerging and practising Indigenous filmmakers in the field of documentary production.
Everyone wants it and most people have fallen for it, but what is this thing called 'love'? The National Indigenous Documentary Fund (NIDF) is calling on Indigenous filmmakers from across the country to submit half-hour documentary ideas that explore this universal human expression.
Outstanding projects will be chosen to uncover the blissful, complex, brave, brutal, burdensome, mysterious and magical stories of love from the unique perspective of Indigenous Australians.
Each of the half-hour episodes is expected to be driven by compelling, contemporary characters, whose stories are heightened by a major event such as an impending marriage, the taking of a promised partner under traditional law, or the birth of a child. Each episode is also expected to contain fresh and insightful points of views, and to explore the many and varied dimensions of being 'loved up'.
Loved Up 2 will occur in two stages: - Stage One: Up to six documentary proposals reflecting the overall theme will be selected for development. They will receive development funding based on the needs of the project, including writer, producer and script editor fees, and any research costs.
- Stage Two: Following the development period, four x 26-minute documentaries will be funded for production.
Eligibility Please note: all applicants and projects must meet the general eligibility criteria on page 8 of the Screen Australia Indigenous Branch Funding Guidelines July-December 2008, in addition to the specific NIDF 11 eligibility requirements as outlined in the guidelines.
Selection criteria Selection will be made on the basis of:- The strength and distinctiveness of the idea and concept, and its potential to sit within the thematic areas of 'loved up'. (30%)
- The skills and capacity of the team to undertake the project as evidenced by previous work and the career development benefits of this project for principal team members: producer, writer and director. (30%)
- The viability of the project in terms of the proposed total production budget amount, financing strategy, creative team and target audience. (20%)
- The quality of the materials submitted, and the appropriateness of the proposed development strategy and use of funds at this stage of development. (20%)
