Set in 1801, James Tucker is a convict with everything to lose. After being granted a house and wife by the governor he is coerced by two other convicts to take part in a robbery. During the robbery a man is killed and three men are convicted of murder. The judge lets one man walk free, one man is set to hang while James Tucker has the choice to hang or become the hangman. He chooses to become the hangman and his first order of duty is to execute his accomplice.
