The animated short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello has collected the top prize, the Annecy Cristal, at the world's most prestigious animation festival, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
Directed by Anthony Lucas and produced by Anthony and Julia Lucas, The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello was developed and funded with assistance from the Australian Film Commission (AFC), Film Victoria and SBS Independent.
In the Series for the Internet section, Australian animator Bernard Derriman won the Netsurfers award for his short film Long Distance Relationship, from the Arj and Poopy series, written and voiced by comedian Arj Barker.
Australian Film Commission Chief Executive Kim Dalton said, "This is another fantastic win for Australian animators on the international festival circuit. This award, combined with Clara receiving the Special Mention in Cannes this year, is a confirmation that Australian animators are leaders in the field, and the AFC congratulates the teams on their success."
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello will screen at this year's Sydney Film Festival as a finalist for the Yoram Gross Animation Award in the 2005 Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films.
