Number of video releases (DVD and VHS) and Australian share, 2000–2006

The number of DVD releases rose each year from 4,131 in 2000 to a high of 6,758 in 2004, but has since fallen to 5,419 in 2006. The number of VHS titles released over the same period has continued to fall from 3,321 in 2000 to 111 in 2006.

The 2006 share of Australian-produced titles on video was 3.3 per cent, up from 2.9 per cent in 2005. The slight increase in the Australian share is due to a 12.1 per cent drop in total releases in 2006. Australian-produced releases have made up 2.3 per cent of the 59,117 video releases recorded between 1983 and August 2007.
