video releases (DVD, VHS and Blu-ray/HD) and Australian share, 2000–2007
Next update August 2009
Since 2005, DVD has represented more
than 90 per cent of all titles released annually. Tracking of the emerging
Blu-ray and HD formats has been included since 2006, while VHS tracking
ceased in 2007 due to falling demand.
In 2007, the number of video releases fell
by 10 per cent to 5,062 from 5,658 in 2006. This marks the third successive
fall after peaking at 7,040 in 2004. Despite this fall, the share of
Australian-produced titles has remained steady with an average of 3.1
per cent over the last four years.
Overall, Australian releases have made up 2.5
per cent of the 62,909 video releases recorded between 1983 and 2007.
