There were 1,431 people employed by Australian
digital game development businesses at the end of June 2007. The majority
were permanent full-time employees (92.6 per cent). Men accounted for
89.2 per cent of the total. There were just three women among the 48
working proprietors, partners and salaried directors.
There were more people employed as artists
and animators than any other category (34.3 per cent), followed by programmers
(29.1 per cent).

Australian businesses that generated income predominantly from the development
of digital games for a range of formats that includes, but is not limited
to, major consoles, handheld computers, personal computers and mobile
phones.

1. All employees on the payroll for the last pay period ending in June
2007, excluding salaried directors of incorporated businesses. Non-salaried
directors, subcontractors, consultants, persons paid solely by commission
without a retainer are also excluded. Full-time employees work 35 hours
or more per week and are entitled to paid leave. Part-time employees
work less than 35 hours per week and are entitled to paid leave. Casual
employees are not entitled to paid leave.
